Movement Medicine for Social Change
Through each offering at Embody the Rhythm I endeavor to create environments that reduce harm and foster trust. While celebrating the diversity of human experience, I look to intersectional, anti-racist, anti-colonial, feminist and nonbinary models of care through a trauma-informed lens to create more accessibility for all.
Movement is Medicine that all people deserve.
Spread love!
We are inter-being with one another and this Earth. With this knowledge as a guide, I strive towards creating safer spaces in harmony with all of our relations.
In respect to accessibility and financial equity, my community classes are supported by a mutual aid model, allowing us all to contribute more when we can and to access support when we need it.
My private lessons are available on a sliding scale. Drop me an email and we’ll sort out a plan that works for us both.
Create or gain access to community classes at Embody the Rhythm
through our communally-supported option:
Gain Access: If the requested contribution for a class is prohibitive, we dance anyway and contribute what or when we’re able. Nobody is turned away for lack of funds.
Create Access: We create equity collectively. When we are able to share some extra, we help to create dance access for others while ensuring artists are compensated; rental and admin expenses are covered.
Surplus: Once expenses are covered and artists are compensated fairly, any additional amount in the fund is distributed to initiatives that move us towards a better world for all.
See examples below!
We contribute in solidarity:
To honor the legacy, culture and people of West Africa from which the music and dances in associated classes originate.
To honor the legacy and culture of the Indigenous peoples of Maine, who's ancestral land we are dancing/drumming/living on.
To honor people of the Global Majority (including Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and LGBTQ+ human family members who continue to lead the struggle for the respect, safety, dignity and opportunity deserved by all.
To cultivate the healing energy we generate on the dance floor and send it beyond ourselves into the world; contribute to much-needed healing within the human family; affirm the healing power of Love!
